“To those whom much is given, much is expected.”
John F. Kennedy

We are very passionate about giving back to those less fortunate in our community. Linda was raised in the 1970s by a single mother who had to work full-time to support their family of five. That time in her life was one when they needed such support and it was provided to them in their greatest hour of need. Linda was 8 years old at the time.  Her mother, Trudie who today is 95 years old, is truly her hero for all that she sacrificed for her family to have a roof over their heads and food on the table. Now that Linda is in the category of those whom much has been given, she feels compelled by a sense of compassion and duty to show her appreciation by paying it forward.

The Kern Group, Inc., have chosen a few charities to support: Sick Kids (for a very personal reason), Plan Canada, World Vision, and Vita Centre. The organization they are most proud to be apart of is one that Linda helped to co-found: 100 Women Who Care Mississauga (www.100womenmississauga.com)

At its heart, 100 Women Who Care operates by a very simple premise:

  • Bring together 100+ women in Mississauga who care about local community causes and who are committed to community service
  • Meet for an hour
  • Jointly select a local charity or not-for-profit organization
  • Each write a $100 cheque to the selected organization and watch how the group’s commitment turns into a $10,000+ donation
  • Do that four times a year and witness how $40,000 can improve the lives of our neighbours when placed in the hands of deserving grass-roots agencies working to serve the local community

At our last meeting on January 27th the charity that Linda nominated, Vita Centre, was selected by our members to receive our donation! We were very proud to be an integral part of the gift of $6,000 that was raised for the clients they serve. In the photo below Linda is presenting the cheque to the Vita Centre staff, Colette Halferty on the left and Deborah Thomson on the right.
